Theater: “Once On This Island” Wins the Tony for Best Revival of a Musical

So in case you didn’t hear, “Once on This Island,” the 2018 Broadway season’s version of the Little Engine that Could, won the coveted Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical.

The musical, a one-act production based on a Caribbean folktale by Rosa Guy, beat out two big-bucks productions – “Carousel” and “My Fair Lady,” which were thought to be the favorites among Tony voters.

Once on This Island revivalWas “Once On This Island” the beneficiary of a split vote among the favorites? Maybe. But history will only reflect that “Once On This Island” won.

To borrow a line from one of the show’s songs, Mama did provide.
