Theater: Tony Awards 2017

Tonight’s the night. The Tony Awards, the biggest awards recognizing the year on Broadway, will be announced.

The major show as far as black theater news is concerned is the Broadway revival of August Wilson’s “Jitney.” While some prognosticators say “Jitney” could snag the Tony for Best Revival of a Play, others point out that the odds are against it because the show has already closed.

Lynn Nottage’s Pulitzer Prize play “Sweat” is also nominated for Best Play.
