Theater: Taye Diggs to star on Broadway this summer in “Hedwig”

Taye Diggs

Actor Taye Diggs will be taking over the title role in the Broadway production of “Hedwig and the Angry Inch.” Diggs is to begin his run July 22.

“Hedwig and the Angry Inch,” is about an East German cross dressing musician who relocates to Kansas after having a sex change operation that goes wrong. Diggs will be the first African American to star in the role. The Broadway production earned four Tony Awards last year with Neil Patrick Harris in the title role.

Diggs has become more known for his work in films like “The Best Man Holiday” and “How Stella Got Her Groove Back” and in television shows like “Private Practice.” But he was a member of the original Broadway cast of “Rent.”

Diggs will take over from Darren Criss from “Glee.”
