Actress Valisia LeKae, who earned a Tony Award nomination for her sparkling portrayal of singer Diana Ross in Broadway’sMotown: The Musical,” announced today that she was leaving the show immediately because she is battling ovarian cancer.

LeKae, who is 34, made the announcement today on her Facebook page.

In an interview on Broadway.com, LeKae said she had been feeling unwell since the summer and had actually taken six weeks off during the summer to overcome what she had thought was just fatigue. A doctor visit in the fall revealed that a small cyst she’d had for a while had tripled in size and needed to be removed.  LeKae had planned to have the surgery in January but then learned of the cancer diagnosis.

Actress Felicia Boswell will be replacing LeKae.
