Dance: Choreographer Ronald K. Brown on New York’s Fall for Dance Festival

The Amsterdam News recently caught up with choreographer Ronald K. Brown to talk about the upcoming Fall for Dance Festival which includes pre-festival performances on Sept. 16-17 at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park, and the regular two-week festival Sept. 25-Oct. 5 at City Center.

Brown’s company will be performing at the special pre-festival performances Sept. 16-17 at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park. (along with New York City Ballet, the Paul Taylor Dance Company, and the STREB Extreme Action Company).

While we don’t know casting, it’s worth noting that the Delacorte performances will see NYCB  perform “Red Angels,” by the late Ulysses Dove, to live music.

Brown’s company, Evidence, will perform his “Upside Down” to live music.

The Taylor company is scheduled to perform “Esplanade” which means it’s possible we’ll see dancer Michelle Fleet.

Other companies and choreographers (black dancers in parenthesis) scheduled to appear during the “regular” two-week Fall for Dance Festival at City Center (Sept. 25-Oct. 5)  include: the Richard Alston Dance Company of London (Nathan Goodman, Monique Smith-McDowell), the Martha Graham Dance Company (Lloyd Knight, Natasha Diamond-Walker, Iris Florentiny, Abdiel Jacobsen), Introdans (Alexis Geddes), Both the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and the Dance Theatre of Harlem are also scheduled to perform.
